Depression among Adolescents – SIMUN 2020

“Once you choose hope, anything is possible.”- Christopher Reeve.
Depression is a highly prevalent psychological disorder, associated with low mood, irritability, stress, anxiety and in the worst case scenario leads to consequences like self-harm or suicide. It isn’t a condition people “cheer up” from. It is a medical condition that warrants proper treatment!
Now a days, adolescent depression is a serious mental health issue that causes persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest in activities. It affects how an adolescent thinks, feels and behaves, and can cause emotional, behavioral and physical problems.
Issues such as peer pressure, academic expectations and body image can bring a lot of ups and downs in teen’s life. Teen depression isn’t a weakness or something that can be overcome with willpower- it can have serious consequences and requires treatment.
Experts believe that doing a few things can protect an individual to some extent from being depressed.
This time Sangam International Model United Nations is pleased to announce a expert panel discussion on the issue ‘Depression among Adolescents’ with Expert Panelists. A great discussion and deliberation on the symptoms, risk factors, coping mechanisms and treatment options for an adolescent who suffers from depression.
So introducing to you the esteemed experts for the panel!
